Maithili Thakur is an Indian politician and playback singer. She gained fame after participating in India’s first live singing reality show, “Rising Star,” in 2017, becoming the first runner-up. She launched her album, “Ya Rabb,” in 2016.
She has also trained in Indian classical and folk music. In 2025, she joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and became India’s youngest MLA, winning the 2025 Bihar elections from Alinagar at the age of 25.

Maithili Thakur Career
She auditioned for Zee TV’s show “Sa Re Gama Pa Li’l Champs” in 2011 but was rejected. Subsequently, she participated in Sony TV’s singing reality show “Indian Idol Junior” in 2015. She launched her album “Ya Rabb” (Universal Music) in 2016.
In 2017, she participated as a contestant in Season 1 of India’s first live singing reality show, “Rising Star,” becoming the show’s first finalist. She lost to the runner-up by just two votes. This success brought her immense popularity. In 2019, she and her brothers were appointed brand ambassadors for Madhubani by the Election Commission.

In 2025, reports emerged that Maithili was planning to enter politics ahead of the Bihar elections. Her meetings with BJP leaders, including Vinod Tawde, fueled speculation that she would contest from Benipatti in Madhubani.
On October 14, 2025, she officially joined the BJP and was given a ticket from the Alinagar assembly constituency. She won by 11,730 votes, becoming the youngest representative ever elected to the Bihar Legislative Assembly and the youngest MLA in the country.
