Rohit Bal was an Indian fashion designer who designed clothes for men and women. He began his career by setting up Orchid Overseas Private Limited in 1986 with his brother at NIFT, New Delhi. He gained success after launching his own independent collection in 1990.
He is known for his designs, which often feature motifs inspired by Indian culture such as lotus and peacock patterns. He also designed costumes for the popular show Kaun Banega Crorepati. Bal also collaborated with Khadi Gram Udyog

He was born on 8 May 1961 in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir. He belonged to a Kashmiri Pandit family. He received his early education from Woodland House School and Barn Hall School in Srinagar Jammu & Kashmir.
Later, due to Islamic conflict in Jammu and Kashmir, his family had to leave Srinagar and he settled in Delhi where he completed his education from Delhi Public School, Delhi. Then he received his Masters degree in History from Delhi University’s St. Stephen’s College. He studied fashion through short course at the National Institute of Technology.

Rohit Bal Family & Relationship
Rohit belonged to a Kashmiri family. His father’s name was Duffy Bal and mother’s name was Rekha Bal. He had a brother Rajiv Bal and two sisters Aruna Bal Sharma and Neera Bal.
He has never married in his life but there is a rumor that he was in a relationship with Lalit Tehlan for 3 years. They both used to live in a live-in relationship and later separated with mutual consent.

Rohit Bal Career
He started his career in 1986 with his brother at NIFT, Delhi, working with Orchid Overseas Pvt. Ltd. He launched his own independent collection in 1990 which brought him success.
Bal also collaborated with Gram Udyog. He is known for his designs with Indian culturally inspired motifs such as lotus and peacock patterns. Which was worn by many Bollywood actors like Sidharth Malhotra Kangana Ranaut, Kareena Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit. He designed the costume for popular actor Amitabh Bachchan which he wore in Kaun Banega Crorepati.
He often used velvet, brocade and rich fabrics. Bal also designed jewelley along with clothes. He opened a store in Delhi and later opened stores in Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Chennai and Bangalore.
He partnered with Biba Apparels by Rohit Bal to form Biba. He was also the brand ambassador of Omega Watches He established himself as a major fashion designer and his clientele included not only Indian celebrities but also international celebrities like Uma Thurman and Naomi Campbell.
Rohit Bal Death
Rohit suffered a cardiac arrest in 2010 and underwent angiography. He recovered but his health continued to deteriorate. In 2023, he developed a heart condition and was admitted to the hospital. He suffered from the disease for a year. He finally died of cardiac arrest on 1 November 2024 in New Delhi at the age of 63.
