Shreyas Iyer is an Indian international cricketer who plays as a right-handed batsman and a right-arm yorker bowler. He plays for Mumbai in domestic cricket and captains the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL. He was part of the Indian Under-19 cricket team in the 2014 Under-19 World Cup.

Shreyas Iyer scored a century in his first Test match against New Zealand on 1 November 2021 and a half-century in the second match, becoming the first Indian player to achieve this feat. He was selected in the Indian squad for the 2023 Cricket World Cup, won his first IPL as captain in the 2024 IPL and became the 5th Indian player to lead a team to win the IPL title.

Shreyas Iyer‘s full name is Shreyas Santosh Iyer. He was born on 6 December 1994 in Chambor, Mumbai. He is 30 years old. His ancestors are from Thrissur, Kerala. He received his primary education from Don Bosco High School, Mumbai and then completed his graduation from R.A Podar College of Commerce and Economics, Mumbai . Since childhood, his dream was to become a cricketer, so he focused on cricket instead of studies.

When Shreyas Iyer was 12 years old, Praveen Amre noticed his batting talent at Shivji Park Gymkhana in Mumbai. He taught Shreyas cricket in the early days. He is compared to Virender Sehwag because of his fast batting style.

Shreyas Iyer Domestic Career

In 2014, Shreyas Iyer represented Trent Bridge cricket team in UK tour and played 3 matches. He scored 297 runs at an average of 99 with highest score of 171 which set a new team record. He made his List A debut in 2014-2015 Vijay Hazare Trophy where he scored 273 runs at an average of 50.60.

In 2015-2016 Ranji Trophy, he scored 1321 runs at an average of 73.39 with 4 centuries and 7 half centuries. He became the second player to score 1300 runs in Ranji Trophy competition. In September 2018-2019 he was named for the Vijay Hazare Trophy, leading the run-scorer for Mumbai with 373 runs in 7 matches.

Shreyas Iyer was named captain of the India B team for the 2018–19 Deodhar Trophy. He scored 199 runs in 3 matches in the tournament. In the 2018–2019 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy opening tournament he scored 147 runs in a T20 match, the highest score by a batsman. In March 2021 he was signed by Lancashire for the 2021 season of the Royal London One-Day Cup but was ruled out of the tournament due to an injury.

In 2015, Shreyas Iyer was bought by Delhi Daredevils for 2.5 crores in the IPL auction, thus becoming the most expensive player of the tournament. He became the 9th most consistent player and emerging player of the IPL by scoring 439 runs in 14 matches at an average of 33.8 and a strike rate of 128. He was also awarded the Best Player of the Year award for emerging players.

In 2018, Shreyas Iyer was made the captain of the team after Gautam Gambhir stepped down from captaincy. Playing against Kolkata Knight Riders, at the age of 23, he became the youngest player to captain a team in IPL history.

In 2019, Delhi Daredevils were renamed as Delhi Capitals. He was associated with Delhi Capitals from 2019 to 2021 IPL. In 2022 IPL, Kolkata Knight Riders bought him for 12.5 crores and made him the captain of the team. Due to injury in 2023, he could not play the entire season of IPL.

T20I Match:- In1 November 2017, Shreyas Iyer made his T20I debut against New Zealand but did not get a chance to bat in the match. In the next match, he scored 23 runs off 21 balls and in the last match, he scored zero 6 runs. It took him 10 innings to score his first half-century in Tests. In November 2019, he scored his first ODI century against Bangladesh which India won by 30 runs.

ODI Match:- On 10 December 2017, Shreyas Iyer made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka. He could not perform well in this match. He scored only 9 runs in 27 balls. In his second ODI match, he scored 88 runs in 70 balls. On 5 February, he scored his first ODI century against New Zealand.

Test Match:- On 25 November 2021, Shreyas Iyer made his Test debut against New Zealand. He scored 105 runs in his first Test innings by hitting 13 fours and 2 sixes. And he became the 16th player to score a century in his Test debut match.
